How do you guys feel about the whole driverless car business? Wired magazine just published an issue with the cover story "Your Next Car Will Drive Itself".

On one hand I find the technology fascinating, but on the other I enjoy driving and wouldn't want to let a computer do it for me. I guess the bright side is that it may keep idiots and stereotypical female drivers from wrapping themselves around a tree while they were trying to text someone.

    >Your Next Car Will Drive Itself

this sentence will never be applicable to me.
    >> Anonymous 01/22/12(Sun)22:18 No.5750401
    Horrible idea.

Once that starts it'll only be a matter of time before it becomes illegal to drive yourself.
    >> Over9kPreludeGuy !k1WwDijODM 01/22/12(Sun)22:20 No.5750407
The technology is pretty much here, it's just a matter of commercializing it. I can't say I really care considering they require no modifications to the current road system. As long as I'm still allowed to drive my car manually, it's fine with me.

That's what I'm afraid of. Though it might be nice for long trips, no more need to stop for the night, just let the computer drive for you while you catch some shuteye.

I already have 2 cars + 1 motorcycle. One of the cars is big and can hold a lot of stuff and is big enough to sleep in.

However assuming I had no vehicles, I would avoid getting one in a no-money situation. If I really needed personal transportation, I would probably get a decent bicycle. Maybe a moped/scooter if I thought I could afford it.

    Corolla.
Wouldn't bother with the Jeep unless you really want to do some proper 4 wheeling, and even then it's quite expensive to run. You'd be better served with a Suzuki Jimny as a Uni bus.

Admit it fagg/o/ts, there is not a single canonical, ficticious car or truck that can outrace the Magic School Bus. Think about it:
    >It can travel through time
    >It can grow and shrink at a rapid rate
    >It can contort its body to adjust to any lateral or vertical forces that the car may experience during a drift
    >The driver and presumably inventor is German, while the rest of the passengers are American, so even Top Gear cannot complain
    >Can transform into a variety of animals/lifeforms (based on the CD-Rom games)
    >If other competitors operate on a similar build structure with the AI that can see through actual eyeballs, it can sprout a giant lightbulb that would blind the other car and cause it to get baked into a pie
    >Even anons can operate it as it is a bus
    >Can withstand the extreme conditions of space, the various atmospheres of nearby planets
    >Can support a variety of armaments for any given situation
    >Contains an infinitessimal amount of life support, food, water and air.
    >Can drive through any opposing material
Admit it, you guys don't have shit on the magic school bus

dear /o/, I'm probably going to be banking some serious cash this year, and I'm considering doing the standard moron thing and getting a sports car. I'm a good driver but I've never owned anything above 170 horsepower. I also live where it snows. As such, I want something of medium style power and AWD. Budget is $20-25k. I want a recent, functional car, not some fixer upper piece of shit.

How do you feel about a 2007-2008 vintage STi? Is it going to make me look like a douchebag, or be a hot mess to maintain?

I don't mind the hatchback if it is fast, as it makes it more practical to drive, even if it looks like a fucking toyota matrix.
